Overview

Colledge is a platform that connects college students with members of the community who have a need for babysitters, yard workers, and other jobs they qualify for. To develop the simplest experience we first outlined the core user flows that customers have to be able to accomplish, such as posting a job or creating a profile. We then utilized Figma to create a prototype that linked together static visuals for the illusion of a working product. Using this prototype, we tested with real target users in a controlled environment which provided us with click data to produce heat maps which, coupled with direct user feedback, gave us signals to improve the design.

Findings

The data we collected led to changes in button placement to reduce misdirected user clicks for posting a job. After making these changes to the prototype we validated the improvement with a new batch of users before any real expensive software implementation work. Direct feedback from users after the test confirmed the ease of use but also provided us with additional needs we could address in the next version, such as enabling photo upload to allow employers to better describe the very custom & nuanced jobs they had in mind.
